BOAZ AS A TYPE OF CHRIST
Deu 25:5 If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband's brother unto her.
Deu 25:6 And it shall be, that the firstborn which she beareth shall succeed in the name of his brother which is dead, that his name be not put out of Israel.
Deu 25:7 And if the man like not to take his brother's wife, then let his brother's wife go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband's brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband's brother.
Deu 25:8 Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him: and if he stand to it, and say, I like not to take her;
Deu 25:9 Then shall his brother's wife come unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto that man that will not build up his brother's house.
Deu 25:10 And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that hath his shoe loosed.
A. The loosing of the shoe. Like our handshake or tipping of the hat or military salute, all had a reason in their beginning.
1.Indicates a slovenly character. One who doesn't take care of business or accept responsibility.
2. Pictured the inability of one to tread over the real estate. It was no longer his.
B. This custom had been incorporated into the Law by God. He expressed his feelings toward Edom through this.
Psa 60:8 Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe: Philistia, triumph thou because of me.
Ruth's faithfulness is rewarded, but had it not been for the provisions provided by the Grace of God in the Law of Moses, Boaz would have been powerless to help.
1.Only a near kinsman of her dead husband had a right to the property.
2. Our birthright as God's creatures was sold out from under us by sin.
3. Angels could not restore it to us. They are not kin.
C. Beasts could not reinstate it. They are not of our family.
Heb 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
D. Our nearest of kin are not capable, they are also debtors.
Psa 49:7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
Psa 49:8 (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
Because of sin, man's shoe is loosed.
E.Christ had to be our kinsman. He could not do the job and remain the glorious God.
1.Rom 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
2. Gal 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
Gal 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
3. Heb 2:11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
Heb 2:12 Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.
Heb 2:13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.
Heb 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
Heb 2:15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
Heb 2:16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
F. Redemption was provided for the loss of both the seed of Chilion and Mahlon.
Ruth 4:9 And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi.
Only Ruth and her children profited and the source of their profiting can be traced back to the decision she made as she accompanied Naomi from Moab.
